1. Emotions
Emotions can take over and get the best of parents at times. Understanding where these feelings are coming from allows us to change how we respond to our children.
2. Awareness
Awareness of yourself and your child. Children challenge us to remain flexible and in control of our feelings and behavior. We can lose our ability to respond flexibly if we are stressed, tired, angry, or frustrated.
3. Emotional Intelligence
Our emotions play an important role in determining who we are, how we behave, and how we connect with our children. Thus we must deal with children using our emotional intelligence (EI).
4. Confidence and Self-worth
Every parent has a responsibility to instill confidence in their children. This is one of the most important things parents can do for children.
5. Understand Attachment
Make yourself emotionally available for your children. You are a parent who is more responsible than caretakers or nannies. If you do that, your children will be attached to you.
6. Discipline
If you lose your control at home and office, you lack something for sure. You need to learn to regulate your emotions and discipline yourself.
7. Guilt Association
With parents, there is too much guilt associated, for example, we could not fulfill our children's needs, we did not spend time with them, I talk to my son rudely, etc. We do not feel guilty for the past because no one is perfect. We learn things from our mistakes.
