Fascinating Stone Age Facts For Kids

The stone age is the earliest period of human history that started almost 2.5 million years ago. During this time, humans discovered how stones can be utilized in making tools and weapons for hunting the prey and defending themselves from predators. 

How Was Life Like In Stone Age?
The people of the stone age used to live in caves. The caves were the safest place to stay when it rained heavily. The caves were sheltering them. Humans were nomad then they used to move from one place to another for the food because the food was their primary concern. Later they learned to make temporary shelters. Humans used to kill animals for food. Animal skin was used as clothes during winter, it provided relief from cold. They would also collect edible stuff from plants and trees. They also started domesticating animals and in the late stone age era, they started cultivating in farms.

The Stone age was so long that it had been divided into three parts
1) Paleolithic Era or Old Stone Age
2) Mesolithic Era or Middle Stone Age
3) Neolithic Era or New Stone Age

Lithic means stones it is taken from the ancient Greek language.

1) Paleolithic Era or Old Stone Age
The Paleolithic dates from about 2.6 million years back and finished around 15,000BC. The ancient human or hominids started to discover new ways to cut trees and hunt animals using weapons which were made using stones. 

2) Mesolithic Era or Middle Stone Age
The tools and weapons were finer compared to those made during the paleolithic era. The prehistoric era that happened between 9600 and 5,000 BC.
The ancient human started paintings on the wall of caves. Some of them used to create animals and human figures for their pleasure.

3) Neolithic Era or New Stone Age
The Neolithic era started between 6000 BC and 2500 BC. During this period humans started domesticating animals and cultivating crops for food. The Neolithic age ended with the introduction of metals for creating tools and weapons instead of stones or rocks.

Stone age era shows how human culture had evolved over a very long period. They were physically were strong because they were living in a natural atmosphere. They worked very hard for getting food, shelter, and clothes. That kept them fit & fine.
